windsor Road, gerrards cross

Start date: 21 August 2023

Duration: 18 weeks

Project manager: Sanjeev Pathak

Local delivery partner: Stanmore Quality Surfacing Ltd

Project overview

We are upgrading the gas pipes along Windsor Road to ensure you continue to receive a reliable gas supply for many more years to come. Our aim is to replace all the metallic mains and service pipes in these locations. This means that we will need to excavate holes in the ground to access the gas pipes in order to inspect and replace them.

We will be starting on the Oxford Road junction implementing our own four-way temporary lights, we expect these to be situ between 3-4 weeks as we progress down Windsor Road. Once we are far enough away from the junction to remove these, we will be using temporary traffic lights working down Windsor Road. These lights will be manned from 7am to 7pm to maintain the flow of traffic.

Project updates

19 January - 11:55

This week the team has been working to replace the current 40m section of the existing gas pipe. Next week they will be transferring the smaller pipes that feed gas into properties onto the new pipe.

The team will have been in contact with any customers affected by this work.

11 January - 12:10

Preparatory work has been ongoing  this week, ready to insert new section of the gas pipe next week.

5 January - 11:20

The team returned following the Christmas break and have been setting up the site and preparing an open cut trench ready for the insertion of 50m of new pipe next week.

8 December - 13:10

Now that we have replaced 460m of the old metallic pipes with new more durable plastic pipes, we are in a good position to pause work for the Christmas break.

Work is underway to reinstate the work area, all traffic management will be removed, and onsite equipment cleared by Sunday 10 December.

The team will be re-mobilising site on Tuesday 2 January.

1 December - 14:00

This week the team has been preparing the trench and smaller service pipes, ready for insertion of new section of gas pipe next week.

Any customers affected by this work will have been notified.

20 November - 10:30

Last week the team laid a further 50m of the new gas pipe and this week they will be working on the smaller pipes that feed gas into the properties within this section.

Any customers affected by this work will have been notified.

10 November - 15:00

A further 48m of the new gas pipe was laid this week. Next week the team will be working on the smaller gas pipes that feed gas into the properties within this section.

3 November - 14:45

This week a further 54m of the new gas pipe has been laid, along with four of the smaller pipes that feed gas into properties.

Next week the team will be working on the next 50m section

.

20 October - 16:50

115m of the existing pipe has been decommissioned and eight of the smaller pipes that feed gas into properties have been replace.

The team will continue to dig an open cut the trench down Windsor Road in preparation for laying of the new gas pipe.

13 October - 10:10

This week the team has replaced a further 50m of the existing pipe, along with four of the smaller pipes that feed gas into properties.

6 October - 09:40

This week the four-way temporary traffic lights were removed and the team is now working under two-way lights on Windsor Road.

A further 60m of the new gas pipe has been replaced, including the smaller pipes that feed gas into eight properties.

29 September - 12:40

This week another 50m of the existing gas pipe has been replaced, this included four smaller pipes that feed gas into four properties.

Once work to reinstate the area is complete, the traffic management with be changed to two-way signals on Windsor Road only.

25 SEPTEMBER - 12.00

Last week the team replaced 50m of existing gas pipe and began excavating the next section of this phase , further down Windsor Road. Due to the requirement to vent the gas from the section they are currently laying, the 4 way lights will remain in situ. We anticipate that these will be removed week commencing 2nd October.

This week the team plan to replace another 50m of existing gas pipe.

Any customers affected by these works will have been notified.

15 September - 12:50

We are still working at the junction of Oxford Road/A40 as engineering complexities continue. We have successfully laid 200m of the new pipe at the junction this week, and we expect the engineering to be completed there by Monday, at which time we can begin progressing down Windsor Road itself.

Unfortunately we cannot remove the four-way light traffic lights from the junction until we are 120m away, this is for safety reasons. We anticipate that the current traffic management will remain for two more weeks. Once we are 120m down Windsor Road, we will change to a two-way system progressing down Windsor Road towards the M40 underpass.

We understand that the traffic management is disruptive for the community so we are working as quickly and safely as possible to get this removed. In the meantime we have two traffic management operatives on site all day to manage traffic flow to attempt to prevent major build ups, this presence will continue.

1 September - 11:30

This week the team has replaced a 50m section of the existing gas pipe.

The excavation at the junction with Oxford Road is exposed, ready to tie in three sections of the pipe next week.

25 AUGUST - 12.00

This week the team were completing preparation works in order to carry out the engineering works from the junction of Oxford Road to the side of Bulstrode Court. During the excavation process, the team found reinforced concrete, which caused minor unexpected delays.

Next week, the team will begin to replace the existing gas pipe on this section. Any customers affected by this work have been informed.

18 August - 09:40

Work will begin on Monday 21 August as planned. The team will be on site from 7am when the four-way temporary traffic lights will be set up.  The first phase of work will begin at the Oxford Road junction and will involve digging a trench, approximately 50m long down Windsor Road.
